The Remarkable Discovery of the City of David and What Israel’s Enemies Don’t Want You To Know by Doron Spielman

One of the most memorable moments of my last trip to Israel was witnessing the ongoing archaeological discoveries at the 3,800-year-old City of David, now preserved as the City of David National Park. New findings were being uncovered daily. During my visit, an excavation had just begun in a former parking lot. I had no idea then that obtaining permission to dig there involved a complex legal battle, international intrigue, and millions of dollars in funding.

More than 3,000 years ago, a king named David, a thirty year old man of short stature with red hair and bright eyes was anointed king of the tribe of Judah. He conquered a small hilltop not far from what is known today as the “Old City of Jerusalem.” David managed to reunite the other eleven tribes of Israel into a single nation and govern them from his hilltop capital known as The City of David. – Doron Spielman

Doron Spielman, a key leader in the excavation and development of the City of David National Park for the past twenty years, reveals the captivating true story of Israel’s ancient heritage uncovered through their work. At times, his narrative reads like an Indiana Jones adventure, while other sections resemble a gripping action thriller.

Spielman’s book and the discoveries it details are especially relevant given recent events in Israel and the Middle East. The archaeological findings corroborate the Biblical account of Israel’s founding as a nation and firmly establish Israel’s presence in Jerusalem three thousand years ago. These revelations validate the writings of ancient historians and strengthen Israel’s historical claims to the land.

I highly recommend this book

Doron masterfully weaves together ancient history with events from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. I found the book utterly captivating and difficult to put down. From both an educational standpoint and the pleasure of reading a true story beautifully told, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
